Tip #8

One thing  we as teamsters need to achieve when we drive our teams is keep them aligned with each other.  Meaning one horse is not ahead of the other.  Steve Bowers puts it very simple.  Most of the time the teamster is at fault for not correcting the situation.  Either you have one horse too fast or one horse too slow.  If you are using shank bits you may have to move your line down on the faster horse and maybe move your line up on the slower horse.  Steve says that most of the time the teamster him/her self has allowed this to happen.  If you can't slow the fast horse down then maybe the use of a whip is needed.  If your faster horse gets jumpy when you tap the slower horse you be need to like a fiberglass electric fence post and just poke the slower horse so the other one doesn't get excited.  Remember you have to control the situation and get them to walk even.
