My name is Barb Schloemer from St. Joseph. For those of you who don't know me my father is Hilary Brunner. My horses call home the same farm that I grew up on by Belgrade. My two horses are Becky, a 12 yr old percheron mare and Chester a 9 yr old percheron gelding.
Even as a child I had the desire to have horses. My earliest experience wasn't with horses but, representing a horse pulling the buggy in a parade that my great grandfather owned. As you can see in the picture(below) it is a 4 horse hitch.
As a junior in high school I eventually graduated to a team of mules. We even made a trip to Lake Henry to visit my grandparents with this team.
The first team of percherons arrived on the farm the year after the cows were sold. My father has owned several teams over the years that I was allowed to practice with.
The first year that I drove a people hauler was at Gene and Pat Loxtercamp's for the 2004 field day. I have attended all the field days ever since. This past year is the first year that I didn't pull a people hauler and did field work .
My newest experience with the NMDHA is being the president. With my faithful side kick Gene being vice president and assuring me he will keep me headed in the right direction. I guess this will be one more of my lifes learning experiences.
